Gemotions

The small, dimly lit coffee shop offered little respite from the persistent drizzle outside. Liam nursed a bitter espresso, the caffeine doing nothing to alleviate the heavy fog that had settled in his mind. He found himself unable to focus on anything.

Suddenly, a hesitant guitar strum began. It was "Whispers of Yesterday," the song he wrote years ago, before everything had gone wrong. The song was being played by an open mic night performer. The young man's voice cracked slightly, his fingers fumbling with the chords. He watched the performance, almost frozen in place.

His eyes burned. He felt a pressure in his chest that made it hard to breathe. The song, in its raw, imperfect state, felt more potent than his own polished recordings had ever been. He stood up abruptly, knocking over his chair, and rushed out into the rain.
